Well, it is out there, Archimedes Plutonium on the front page and full
feature news article in the South Dakota Argus Leader.

Never heard of it.

I was on the cover of Wired magazine once - it was equally uncomplimentary.

Well I guess you have the same two options open that I have. If not
too old
of a story, one is to send an
email listing the mistakes and hope they take action. And the second
is to
write a story about the Wired story and post it to the Internet. There
is a good
chance that more eyes would read your story in sci newsgroups than
those people
who read it from the magazine itself.

I do not know what the laws are regarding the application of
correcting a mistake
in printed material. Whether they are forced to add the mistakes to a
Correction Column such as in the Wall Street Journal.

P.S. I wrote a reply to this post earlier, but it disappeared, and
excuse it if it shows up
later.

PostPosted: Thu Jul 03, 2008 4:54 pm    Post subject: #19 a code-rule of bringing in outside comments in a story; Reply with quote

I suspect there is a code rule in journalism concerning who a editor
can bring into a story done on
another person. As in the case of the Story done on Archimedes
Plutonium on 29 June 2008 by
Nestor Ramos of the Argus Leader in Sioux Falls South Dakota. My
concern is the injection of
Jesse Hughes, some philosopher on the East Coast and why should he
take up ample space
with negative comments in a story of Archimedes Plutonium.

I believe the correct and proper code of conduct rule by a reporter
was to tell me that the story
would have comments by Jesse Hughes. And upon hearing that, I could
have said "do not
write the story and goodbye". However, what did happen was that Mr.
Ramos said nothing
to the fact that he was going to include some outside commentor.

So, please correct me if wrong, but I believe there is some code of
conduct by journalists
or news reporters doing stories on scientists. That the journalist has
a duty to inform all the
scientists of the story, as to who will have "words of thought or
comments" included in the
story. And with that information, any of those scientists could say
"stop there, for I want
nothing to do with this story"

If Mr. Ramos had told me he was going to include comments by Jesse
Hughes, I would
have said, go ahead with the story, but include this statement: "That
Mr. Hughes is a
sour and bitter philosopher, judging from his Usenet posts and is
unqualified to comment
on the Atom Totality theory since it is physics, not philosophy"

Don't you worry, Archie. No one trusts those East Coast philosophers
anyway.
